Dear Friends,
Instead of a lot of words in this my final letter to you, I give you the following story!
The Tale of Two Donkeys
Some of you will remember this from a children's address! The two donkeys in the story decide that working together is better than competition. Each donkey gives way to the other at the appropriate time to allow each bundle of hay to be enjoyed.
Working together as linked congregations has been at the centre of much of what we have done during this time of Interim Ministry. I firmly believe it has worked very well, and that both congregations have benefited from it - and will continue to benefit from it as long as we are willing to give way to each other, to share the task before us and continually to consider each other's best interests.
Remember the promise made by both Kirk Sessions and which I suggested would be a good promise for everyone?
Our Promise to Each Other
As elders of these linked congregations, we commit ourselves, prayerfully:
- to be one in spirit and purpose - to be united with Christ in serving the interests of others - to work in ways that will enable harmony and partnership between us to grow - to do everything in a spirit of thankfulness and celebration of our faith
May that sense of unity and partnership and understanding grow in all the months and years ahead!
Let me thank you again for the privilege of working with you over these past 22 months. My prayers go with you in all that lies ahead - may God bless you in your life and work and witness together.
Every blessing,
Iain
