1st Holytown Girls Brigade
Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends,
The new session has started well with 5 Rosebuds, 15 Explorers, 9 Junior 1 's, 9 Junior 2's, 4 Brigaders, 7 Officers, 1 Auxiliary and 1 Warrant Officer.
There's still time to join, so if you have a daughter, or know someone who is interested in joining us and would like to "pack the whole world into one night'' then please come along on a Wednesday night to Holytown Primary School or talk to an Officer on a Sunday morning.
Although we have enjoyed meeting in the Primary School we are all very excited at the progress of the new hall and can't wait for the Wednesday night when we meet there for the first time.
The Brigader section took part in an open day hosted by the BBC at their new building on Pacific Quay, Glasgow. While the girls worked the cameras and sound Mrs Louise Gray took to the front of the camera like a duck to water and had a go at being a sports presenter. The girls were presented with a DVD of their efforts and hopefully this will receive its first public showing at our Parent's night in May.
The officers have been busy too, attending a specialised training day in Larkhall and the National AGM of Girls' Brigade in Scotland in Falkirk. Two of our Brigaders, Emma Baillie and Jacqueline McKendrick will be taking their Leadership Two training early in November,
The Boys' Brigade and Girls' Brigade re-dedication Service will take place on Sunday 28th October in Holytown Parish Church and we hope you can all join us for this special Service.
We would like to thank everyone for their support since the start of the session. Special thanks must go to our two elders Miss Margaret Milne and Mr Hugh Anderson and to Mrs Betty Meechan and all our "friends of the Company'.
Thanks also to our Chaplain; Rev lain Goring for his spiritual guidance and his visits to us on Company nights.
We would also like to record our thanks to the Kirk Session of Holytown Parish Church for their kind donation of £300 to cover the deficit of the registration fees and the gift of a laptop, which will make life much easier for the Officers! All we have to do is find some kind person to give us lessons on how to work Power Point!
Girls' Brigade Headquarters have set the registration fees this session at £15 per girl/Officer. This meant we had to find an extra £9 per girl/Officer and we are very grateful to the Kirk Session for their generous gift.
We are fast approaching the busiest time of the year, Christmas, with parties, outings, competitions and special events in the Church. Watch this space!
Mrs Marlene Milton (Captain)
The Guild
The Guild resumed on Wednesday 10th October at 7.15 p.m. in the Senior Citizens' Centre. Any new members will be made welcome.
Changes in personnel
Just how observant were you last month? Did you read the names on the back page of the magazine or did you presume that there was no change?
First of all we should like most sincerely to thank Mr lan Houston who was the Weekly Freewill Offering Treasurer for 10 years. As well as recording the weekly offerings he also dealt with the claiming of Gift Aid which is a very responsible job.
Secondly Mr Sydney McCartney who for some years was the Roll Keeper has demitted office. We thank him for all the work he has done in amending and re-amending our roll over these years. We thank him most sincerely for his work.
We wish to welcome the successors to these offices. We welcome Mrs Susan Reid as the new Weekly Freewill Offering Treasurer and Mrs Alice Smith as the new Roll Keeper. We trust that both will find pleasure in serving in these positions.
We should also like to inform you that we are delighted to welcome Mrs Jessie Arthur to the Congregational Board. We trust that she will find much pleasure serving on the Board.
