Decision
I was watching the news during the week and the visit of Gaddaffi to the United States was being covered. Without going into all the issues surrounding this visit, I thought it was interesting to note that although a large number of people were protesting about this visit, what appeared to be an equally large number were demonstrating their support of the visit.
Whenever someone speaks up in support of Salmond/Brown/Cameron, there is always someone speaking in condemnation of the same individuals.
Keep the soldiers in Afghanistan/bring the soldiers home, have GM crops/don't have GM crops, free Megrahi/keep him in jail, keep Burley/sack Burley - these differences of opinion are featured daily in the news reports we receive and there are always folks with directly opposing views in these matters. Although we are told we live in a democracy, certain groups will be happy with decisions reached and others will be unhappy. The system in the world is designed to leave an element of disharmony and discontentment.
Over and above this, there are those who can't quite make up their minds about what or who they choose to support. Between 7.00 and 9.00 am each Sunday morning, Aled Jones has a programme on Radio 2 and plays an assortment of music, some of which we are familiar with in Christian worship. Each week he interviews a guest. Some of these guests are religious leaders, others are maybe 'personalities', singer/songwriters etc. It amuses me when he asks the non-religious guests about their spirituality and inspiration. Invariably, the guest gets a bit 'squirmy' and come out with evasive statements along the lines of 'there must be a greater power that provides direction, guidance, inspiration or I miss the architecture etc but I don't believe in God or organised religion as such'. There was one recently who described her latest CD (she was on the show trying to get people to buy it) as an 'agnostic gospel album'!!!!
The following extracts from scripture make it absolutely clear where we need to stand to be part of the Church of Christ.
John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
1 Kings 18:21 And Elijah came near to all the people and said, How Song will you go on balancing between two opinions? If the Lord is God, then give worship to him; but if Baal, give worship to him. And the people said not a word in answer.
Revelation 3:16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I, will vomit you out of my mouth.
