The Rev lain Goring has been appointed as the Interim Minister for the linked charges of Holytown Parish Church and Wrangholm Kirk, New Stevenston. The service of linkage followed by the introduction of the Interim Minister will take place in Wrangholm Kirk, New Stevenston on Thursday, 26th October 2006 at 7.00 pm.
We are looking forward to this new era in the life of the church.
For the tots
There is no doubt that you enjoy going out to play with all your friends, but did you know that the Bible also tells us about boys and girls playing. In Zechariah Chapter 8 and verse 5 we read the words, "and the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets."
Is it not truly amazing that the joy and happiness that was being promised to the people of Jerusalem was going to be celebrated not just by the grown-ups but also by little boys and girls just like you?
For the teens
We all like to know one another's names. When we read a book we associated certain things with a particular character whose name we usually remember quite easily.
In the Bible we have a number of occasions when we have simply no idea what a particular person was called and yet what they did is recorded. From the Old Testament in the book of 2 Kings, chapter 5 beginning at the first verse we read the story of a very special girl who worked for Naaman. Naaman suffered from leprosy. The girl was in fact a slave but she wanted to help her master and suggested that he visit Elisha, the prophet. Through her influence Naaman was cured of his infirmity all thanks to the captive girl. Do read the story for yourselves.
In the New Testament we read in St Luke, Chapter 8, verses 41 to 43 and 49 to 56 about the daughter of Jairus who was a ruler of the synagogue. We do not know her name but her restoration to health is a wonderful example of what Jesus was able to do. This story also shows that Jesus was not in a great hurry to reach the girl because he was going to show what the father's faith could achieve.
Perhaps these two episodes in the Bible show us very clearly that what we do and what happens in our lives is more important than our names. Although neither of these two girls' names is known the kindness of Naaman's girl and the faith of the father of the other are still remembered more than two thousand years later.
Thank you
Mrs Jean Shaw and family wish to thank everyone for their kindness and consideration at this sad time. They wish to thank all who sent cards and messages of sympathy, flowers and those who visited. Your thoughts were much appreciated.
The Girls' Brigade
Since the last magazine was published, Julia McKendrick and her parents were invited by the National Director to attend the Scottish National AGM. Julia was asked to prepare a short talk on the Somerville Award Competition of last October.
The AGM was chaired by Her Grace The Duchess of Montrose, who invited Julia to address the assembly of over 200 delegates from all over Scotland. Undaunted by the sea of faces before her, Julia delivered her talk with ease and was a great hit with everyone. Well done again to Julia!
