Friends,
Welcome to an 'Anniversary Edition' of our church magazine - and what a wonderful 'Anniversary Edition' it is for this is the 500th Edition! What a great milestone for our Church magazine and a wonderful achievement for our Editor, Margaret, who over the years has ensured each issue of the magazine has been ready for publication and distribution.
I am sure as you read beyond this page to the many articles within its cover this month that, in that reading, many memories will come flooding back to you and also I am sure many people from the past will be called to mind. Indeed it is wonderful that some of the people from Holytown Church's history have agreed to contribute to this issue and share their memories of their time here with you.
You know, as I have often said to you - Holytown Church is like a train on a journey and the people are its passengers and on that journey many different people will get on and off the train at different times, some staying but a short time, some a longer time - but the train will always travel forward on its journey enriched by the passengers who join the journey and contribute something of themselves to that journey.
So as you read of our past journey, enjoy the memories and remember the people who were a part of them for they have greatly enriched our journey.
However, it would be remiss of me as your present Minister, if I remained in the past, for we have much of the journey yet to cover here at Holytown, many more passengers to welcome on board, more outreach to undertake in the name of Christ and ultimately many more editions of the Magazine to read as we journey on as a Church.
Wouldn't it be fantastic if we had so much going on here in Holytown that our magazine had to expand monthly to cover our many varied activities!
When I was thinking about this 500th Edition of the magazine, it struck me that when Jesus was alive the Romans were in power and in Roman Numerals the letter which represents 500 is 'D'.
Then it seemed to me that `D' was part of the reason we are here in Holytown today and `D' will be the means by which we move forward into our future together and onward on our journey.
Before us came many Disciples, Devoted people, Dedicated to God, Determined to share the Good News of Christ in this place. People acknowledging the Divinity of God, willing to be people of Discipline who would follow his Direction alone.
We are blessed with many Disciples here today in Holytown, Devoted people, Dedicated to God, people acknowledging the Divinity of God, Disciplined and willing to follow his Direction.
Let's be Determined to share that Good News of Christ, to travel forward joyfully and welcome others onto our journey and so fill our Church Magazine with so much activity that it is bursting at the seams!
I for one am looking forward to the next 500! Isn't the Roman Numeral for 1000 - M?
MISSION!
Yes that's what we should be about! Roll on our 1000th edition!
Every Blessing
Caryl
