For the tots
Are you enjoying being able to go outside to play with your friends? Isn't wonderful how much better the weather is? God sends us winter with its cold, wet, snowy days. The trees and plants seem to go to sleep and do not waken up until the spring comes. Now we have much warmer days when the flowers are so pretty and the trees have all their leaves on them. The bareness of winter is over and the countryside is once more bright and inviting.
For the teens
This is the time of year when the youth organisations you have been attending over the winter months begin to close down for the summer. You now have time to think back on the many things you have learned during your hours spent with your friends. Now is the time to think about how you can put at least some of the things you have learned into practice.
When you make new friends in the summer - perhaps on a day out or perhaps while on holiday - you can share your pleasure with them and encourage them to join a company near to where they live. You may also have unusual encounters with others whom you have met at competitions and whose faces you have forgotten. Don't imagine that if you have forgotten someone they have also forgotten you. A long time ago in Scarborough a girl from a company in Ayrshire recognised me as an officer of the company with whom her company had shared a room in a school at a Singing Games Competition. I could not honestly say that I remembered the girl. We had both been in uniform in Dundee where the competition was held and we were now dressed in summer clothes. Her mother was a bit apprehensive about her daughter speaking to me until she heard my Scottish accent.
We ought to be careful about what we do. If we are not we are letting ourselves down and bringing disrepute upon ourselves. You never know where and when someone is going to remember you.
The Girls’ Brigade
Our Awards Evening and Parents' Night will take place on Wednesday 16th May in Holytown Parish Church at 7.00 pm. Girls should arrive at 6.45 pm in full uniform including armbands. No jeans please. Parents/Guardians, family and friends are all invited to join us on this evening. A collection will be taken on the door of the church for Company Funds.
The Motherwell Divisional AGM will take place on Monday 14th May in Crosshill Church Hall. All girls who won or were runners up in Competitions should meet at 7.00 pm for uniform inspection and photograph. A collection will be taken at the door to be shared between the Girls' Brigade National Appeal and Dream Flights. All relatives and friends are warmly invited to join us on this occasion.
Sunday 20th May will be our Thanksgiving parade and Service in Holytown Parish church. Girls presently in P3 are eligible to parade on this day. Rosebuds and P1/P2 girls should meet inside the church at 10.15 am. All other sections should meet at St Andrews Street at 10.00 am to parade to the Church. We will be parading back to St Andrews Street after the Service. Full uniform should be worn for this. All relatives and friends are warmly invited to join us for this Service. As this is the first official Service our new Chaplain will be conducting for us, let's try for a 100% turnout.
The officers would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support during the past session and we hope you all have a good summer holiday.
We look forward to seeing you all again in August.
Thank you,
Marlene Milton, Captain
