Haiti appeal
This appeal raised the sum of £434. This was passed on to Holytown Primary School to be included with what they had gathered. The children were astonished at the amount and are very grateful for our help. We should like to thank everyone who contributed for their generosity.
Thoughts for the month
It is the week prior to the deadline for magazine articles as I write this and with spring allegedly 'just round the corner', the snow is currently lying outside to a depth of around five inches and there's a thick fog. Is it only me that's becoming a bit sceptical when I hear talk of global warming?
Everyone I've come into contact with this week seems to be incredibly busy with various tasks and duties that have to be completed within a certain time. I guess we all find ourselves in situations like this and I also take it we each have a method for prioritising our various tasks. I must admit that my approach may be considered a bit primitive. It usually involves writing each task on a post-it note and sticking it somewhere that I can't avoid seeing it. As each task is completed, the associated post-it is scrunched up and put in the bin. Invariably as one enters the bin, it is not usually long before another task emerges and another post-it has to be written and stuck in the space vacated by the previous note.
With the lives of many of us being so busy, where does God fit in? Does this question not just make us feel a little bit awkward?
Scripture does not refer us to Christian priorities. In the Bible, we are told of only one priority and that is to 'seek first his kingdom and his righteousness' and 'do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself’ (both extracts from the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew chapter 6.
Easter
I don't know about you but I'm really looking forward to the special services Caryl is planning for Easter this year. I'm sure all who attended these services last year were drawn further into the passion and the drama of the events leading up to the Lord's crucifixion and resurrection. If you were unable to attend last year, please put aside the time this year. You will not regret it.
Evening celebration
Each month, you will see intimation of a preparation meeting. The minister and a small group meet to discuss the hymns and the format of the evening celebration that is normally held on the last Sunday of each month. These meetings are very informal and we have tea, coffee and biscuits to help the process along. This is not a private club. Everyone is welcome and it would be great to have some new folks with us at these meetings and I guarantee you will enjoy the fellowship. A similar invitation is extended to you all to come along to the Sunday celebrations. A good turnout at these times of worship makes the preparation meetings even more worthwhile.
