Souper Sunday - thank you
Thank you very much for the donation of £303.00 raised by your Souper Sunday event at Holytown Parish Church. We hope that the day was enjoyable as well as being profitable; we have enclosed a certificate for you to display on your church wall, and would ask you to pass on our very grateful thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of Souper Sunday at Holytown Parish Church.
Early indications are that Souper Sunday has been a success. We know that over 250 churches were taking part - some had to postpone because of the weather - and we have had some very good feedback, both about the service itself and the fellowship enjoyed by congregations as they sat down to share soup together. If you would like to learn more about the work of the project, please get in touch and we will arrange for someone to come and speak to your congregation.
It is definitely good news financially for the Project, which in turn is good news for those living with HIV. Please keep us and them in your prayers!
With best wishes,
Mary McGinley (Project Administrator)
Stated Annual Meeting
The Stated Annual Meeting was held at the close of Morning Worship on Sunday 28 February.
The Treasurer reported that in spite of their being an economic recession, 2009 was overall a good year for Holytown Church. The offerings had increased and we can also report that this trend is continuing in 2010. The overall increase in 2009 was 3.6%. At the end of the year receipts had exceeded payments by £3,033 - a really good situation. £6,931 had been spent on items such as renovating the church, upgrading the heating, and new lights in the Vestibule.
We have made our final payment to the builders but there are still a number of items which have to be replaced but this will not present any financial problems.
The amount sent to charities was excellent, thanks to the generosity of the congregation.
(Have you noticed? We have already donated £303 to HIV/Aids and £434 to the Haiti Appeal?)
Mrs Marlene Milton was re-elected to serve a further three years on the Congregational Board. Two new members were elected, namely, Mrs Betty Mackenzie and Mrs Freda Marshall. We trust that all three will have pleasure in serving in this way.
The Congregation were introduced to Mrs Susan Reid who has been appointed as Treasurer to replace Miss Margaret Milne who has retired from this position. We wish Susan well as she tackles this new task.
