Christmas gifts
The following letters were received from the Charities to whom we sent the money we raised over the Christmas period.
First of all, this letter was received from Mission Aviation Fellowship. You will recall that Mr and Mrs Munro visited us some time back.
"Our area representative, Catherine Munro has sent us a cheque for £115 from Holytown Parish Church for the support of Alasdair Munro. We are delighted to receive this gift and on Alasdair's behalf, please pass on our grateful thanks to everyone who contributed in any way towards it.
"it was great to hear of Alasdair's engagement to Cassandra and we would ask you to remember them in prayer as they plan their wedding.
"Amongst all the excitement Alasdair is also studying very hard for his final examinations and is due back in the UK at the beginning of May. He hopes to undertake some deputation work before going out to the mission field, probably in late summer or early autumn. His destination has not been finalised yet but it is looking increasingly likely that it will be somewhere in East Africa. I know he appreciates your prayers for his future.
"With many thanks again, Yours sincerely, Graeme N Scott, Manager for Scotland."
Secondly, this letter was received from the Children's Hospice Association Scotland.
"I am writing to thank you for the kind donation of £115.00 from Holytown Parish Church to the Children's Hospice Association Scotland. Please pass on our thanks to everyone who contributed to this wonderful amount. It was good of you all to think of CHAS and your support is greatly valued.
"Both Rachel and Robin House have had a busy start to the year as we support children and families from all over Scotland. For many families, their stay at Rachel or Robin House is the only time they can spend time together as a family, with CHAS providing expert medical care, comfort and emotional support.
"The focus for all our children and families, as always, is on creating happy memories. Your donation makes these memories possible.
"Our adventurous teenagers enjoy the 'Outward Bound' weekend where they took part in abseiling, zip sliding and getting away from their mums and dads for a while! Paisley pop star Paolo Nutini also popped by for a 'jamming session' and enjoyed using every musical instrument we own! A group of young sisters were deservedly spoilt rotten at the Robin House Siblings' Day where they were treated to a meal out and a magical trip to the theatre.
"Looking after a child with a life limiting condition is a 24 hour a day job. Your special gift gives mums, dads, brothers and sisters a chance to relax, have fun and take time for themselves. Alongside thjs respite care, our bereavement support teams are there for as long as families need us.
"It will cost around £5 million to achieve all this in 2007 and your help is greatly appreciated. On behalf of everyone at the children's Hospice Association Scotland, thank you once again for your kind support.
"Yours sincerely, Debbie Traynor, Fundraiser, West of Scotland."
An old Covenanter's prayer
"O God, oor souls are jist as dry as the heather: oor herts are as hard as the granite stane; but Thou that gi'est the draps o' dew tae the heather, gi'e us the drappin's o' Thy grace this day, and let Thy ain love licht upon oor hard herts like the birdie sitting singin' on the rock younder; and fill the souls o' Thy fowk this day wi' peace and joy till they're runnin' ower like the water-spout on the brae. Lord, it'll be nae loss tae You, an' it'll be a grand bargain for us, and we'll mind ye on't tae a' eternity. Amen."
