I'm sure some of you will be familiar with those I've listed and there will be many who have other memories that are not in my list.
One thing that sticks in my own mind (and this was probably before the heating in the hall was upgraded) was the smell from your clothes after being in the hall. It wasn't an unpleasant smell, it was distinctive and I can still remember that smell now and I will never forget it even although the majority of the hall building does not exist any more.
We are all sad about the fire but at least our memories are untouched by the flames. It is a harsh lesson that reminds us everything in this life is temporary and only God always has been, is now and always will be. Only God is dependable. Only God is permanent.
Hopefully by around next spring or summer we will have a new purpose built hall which hopefully will feature in the memory of future congregations for many years to come.
I suppose when any of us refer to the Church, in many instances it is the building we are referring to. Maybe it's worth remembering that the Church of Jesus Christ is a body of people who believe in him and that it is these people who are important in the eyes of God and not the buildings. Buildings will continue to outlive their usefulness but there will always be a Church.
I've selected a few passages from scripture for our consideration at this time.
Acts 20 verse 28
