June 2006
To :- The Congregation of Holytown
When I started to think of how to begin this letter I thought of the tale of the hare and the tortoise. You will remember that it was in the end the tortoise that won that race because it was the steady plodder. I feel that the whole process of the Vacancy has been a bit similar, the tortoise in the race won and we will in the end be victorious.
The process is still moving forward and there has been a meeting between representatives from both Holytown and Wrangholm to begin the negotiations for the basis of linkage. This group very quickly agreed to what would be the Basis of Linkage. I firmly believe that they have secured a very good position for the Church here at Holytown. The Kirk Session then met on Thursday the 1St June and agreed unanimously with the Basis of linkage.
The next step is for the Congregation to have a meeting. This meeting will take place in the Church following the Service on Sunday the 11th June 2006. A representative from the Presbytery will be present to take the Meeting. Copies of the Basis of Linkage will be available after the Service on the 4th June 2006 for you, the Congregation, to read for yourselves.
I would like to thank the members who represented the Church at the meeting with Wrangholm for the very successful outcome to the negotiations. I know that they could not have secured a better or more satisfactory arrangement for our Church and for the linkage.
This has been a very long and protracted Vacancy, we now can see a very positive light at the end of the tunnel. I foresee a very bright future for the linked charge and look forward with a great deal of interest to the start of a new and exciting chapter in the life of this Church together with Wrangholm.
Please when you receive a copy of the "Basis of Linkage" read it and should you have any questions regarding the document please do not hesitate to ask any of the Elders who will be able to give you the answer.
Please use the power of Prayer in the days and weeks that lie ahead remembering the Elders and Office Bearers who together with members of Presbytery have brought us to a new and very exciting time in the life of our Church.
May God richly bless you all.
