Resignation of Sunday School Superintendent
A short time ago Mrs Marlene Milton intimated to the Kirk Session that she wished to resign from the position of Sunday School Superintendent. It was with regret that her decision was accepted.
Marlene has worked among the children in the Primary Sunday School for about twenty-five years and in the last few years was Superintendent. She worked very hard and always kept up-to-date with new developments and worked in conjunction with the minister and the Kirk Session. We should like to thank her most sincerely for her valuable work amongst the young people in our church.
Christmas is past - its time to say 'thank you'
Each Christmas there are many people who make a real effort to ensure that everything is in place to make it a very happy celebration. This year was no exception.
First of all, we should like to thank the ladies of the Guild for once again providing us with our Christmas Tree - a really lovely one. Our thanks, too, to Tom and Elizabeth Denholm and Louise Gray for decorating it so tastefully.
Our Carol Concert was attended by more people than we've had for many years. We are glad that they were with us, We thank the officers and girls of our Boys' and Girls Brigades for their contribution. It was good, too, to have the Girls' Brigade from Wrangholm joining in. Thank you, girls.
We must not forget the adult singers, the readers from the Bible and other poems and stories - thank you also to them.
There is still one person who has co-ordinated all the events over Christmas - Rev lain M Goring. We wish to record out thanks to him not only for Christmas but for all that he has done over 2007. We do appreciate his contribution. It is hard to believe that he has been with us for just over a year but in this time he has encouraged and guided us with patience as we become more and more a linked charge and less of two individual and separate charges. This is no mean feat. Thank you.
Christmas offerings
The total between the Carol Concert and the Christmas Eve Service amounted to £632.00. We have sent £158.00 to the following charities - St Andrew's Hospice, Airdrie, CHAS, Diabetes UK and Dreamflight.
Christmas cards
We are indebted to the Boys' Brigade for delivering the Christmas Cards. Thank you, boys. We hope that they enjoyed being "Christmas postmen". The sum raised is £57.54.
Music in the Church
Some time ago we purchased Church Hymnary No 4 for use in the Church. We also recorded that we had used legacies to purchase them. You will be aware if you were at the Carol Concert that we have also bought a new clavinova – a replacement for the small organ, which was completely obsolete. These two items have come from the legacies received from Mrs Ella Kane, Mrs Frances Plenderleith, Mr Ronnie Coates and a memorial donation received from Mrs Jean Gardner. Later a small plaque will be placed on the clavinova to show where these gifts to the church originated. We know that both gifts will benefit us greatly.
