Thank you
As we look back on 2005 it is fitting that we should say "thank you" to all who have contributed so much to the life of our congregation.
First of all, we should like to thank the Rev Colin Sutherland, our Interim Moderator, for all the duties he has carried out on our behalf during 2005 - conducting worship, weddings, funerals and so on. We also express our gratitude to the others who conducted worship during 2005, namely, Messrs Alasdair Brockett, William Cruickshanks, Leslie Falconer, Frank Haggarty, Isaac McCleary, Tam Stevenson and David Young. We also wish to record our thanks to those of our own members who have taken part in services - especially when at very short notice!
During the year many have taken part in the Evening Fellowship meetings.. To those who visited us such as Rev Sinclair Horne, Rev Gavin Smith, Mrs Munro of Mission Aviation Fellowship and to those from the congregation who participated we thank you most sincerely. We are also indebted to Mrs Isa Hinshelwood for organising the tea and coffee after the meetings.
Much that adds to our enjoyment of the Christmas Season goes on behind the scenes and apart from those involved we are unaware of how carefully everything is planned. Let us begin with the highlight - The Nativity Play. This was greatly appreciated by all present. Thank you, children. We also record our heartfelt thanks to the Sunday School Superintendent and staff.
We should like to thank the ladies of The Guild for the Christmas tree. We also thank Mr and Mrs Denholm and Mrs Louise Gray for making the tree look so attractive.
The Christmas Carol Concert on Saturday 3rd December was a very happy occasion. The Church was filled with the lovely singing of carols. We thank the young folks in the Sunday School and Bible Class and the Boys' and Girls' Brigades for their contribution. We also thank those who read the poems.
On behalf of the Sunday School staff we wish to thank all who contributed to the Santa Gift.
A certain man in a red cloak was a very welcome visitor to the Sunday School and to the joint Sunday School and Boys' and Girls' Brigade party. The children wish to give you a "big thank you".
The Charity Gift did not raise as much money this year but £12 will be added to the offerings at the Carol Concert and the Christmas Eve Service. Thanks to all who contributed. The gifts taken. to those who are in homes were much appreciated. They are delighted to be remembered.
Mrs Edmond is absolutely delighted with the poinsettia she received from the church. She thanks everyone for their thoughtfulness and kindness.
Finally, week by week the Flower Convener delivers or arranges for the flowers to be delivered either to those who are ill at home or in hospital or to anyone who is in need of comfort. The gift of flowers to those who are lonely or sad or unwell is greatly appreciated. Our thanks again to those who have placed flowers in the church. We thank Mrs Christine Bell most sincerely for doing this most valuable service.
A message from Mr Leslie Falconer
A letter was received from Mr Falconer which stated, "I have intimated my retiral of the readership to Hamilton Presbytery as at 31st December 2005, would you let the people at Holytown know of the above.
"I wish to express my deep thanks to them for the kind and thoughtful way they received me when I had the privilege of conducting services at your church, and I wish the congregation every good wish for the future.
