You really are important
We should like to thank the Magazine Distributors for all their work throughout 2008. Without you the magazine could not go into so many homes. You too are, for those who are housebound, a very important link with the church. We also thank Mrs Isa Hinshelwood for dealing with the financial side of the magazine distribution. Thanks also go to the team of willing volunteers who contribute, scan and publish the magazine on our web site. From the response we have had, it has been a great success.
We are grateful to Mrs Christine Bell and the group of people who week by week place flowers in the church. Not only do the flowers beautify the church, they are much appreciated and enjoyed by those to whom they are taken. You remind the recipients that they are remembered.
The Girls' Brigade
It was with sadness that we learned of Cathie Paterson's passing on 17 December 2008. As many of you will know Cathie was a founder member of our Company when it was formed in 1938. She went on to become a Guardian in The Girls' Guildry and was the first Captain of the Company in Holytown when the Girls' Brigade was formed by the merger of The Girls' Brigade of Ireland with The Girls' Guildry and The Girls' Life Brigade.
Cathie had a wealth of information and history of our Company, which she passed on to us over the years. Only last year she kindly invited me to her home when we chatted about the Company and she presented me with a folder containing precious memories of the 40th Anniversary Celebrations. She was looking forward to our 70 Anniversary Praise Service taking place in March 2009.
Former members of our Company and Motherwell Division join us in sending our condolences to her family at this sad time.
Marlene Milton, Captain
Christmas Eve Service
The offering at this service was £273. This will be sent to the St Andrew's Hospice in Airdrie. We thank everyone for their generosity.
Thank you to....
At Christmas many people contributed to the joy and happiness we have all enjoyed.
We should like to thank The Guild for once more donating the Christmas Tree which has adorned the Church for the past few weeks. We should also like to thank Tom and Elizabeth Denholm and Louise Gray for decorating the tree so tastefully.
This year at our Gift Service on Sunday 14th December we remembered the children for whom Christmas would not bring a great variety of toys and other gifts. We thank everyone for their generosity. These gifts were given to an appreciative group called "Loaves and Fishes". Thank you to all who participated.
We should like to thank our minister, the Rev Caryl Kyle, for making this Christmas very special. It is wonderful to have a settled ministry once again. Everyone was kept on their toes on Sunday 21 December - there were parcels to be opened, carols to be found and sometimes there was a parcel to be passed around. All these things were appealingly different. The Christmas message was also much appreciated.
The Watchnight Service with Community Carol Singing beforehand attracted quite a large number. There was a good feeling of togetherness and of anticipation as we all worshipped and awaited the coming of Christmas Day with thoughts of how it was on the very first Christmas morning.
Having a Christmas Day Service was something new for us. It was good to see that quite a number were present at Wrangholm to join in this joint celebration of Christmas.
2008 has finished very well for our linked congregations and we are all looking forward to the new ministry and to sharing new as well as old experiences as the year 2009 progresses.
The Guild
May we remind you that The Guild will resume on Wednesday 14th January 2009 at 7.15 pm in the Senior Citizens' Centre.
