Personal plates
Many years ago, my father took me to the Edinburgh tattoo and the highlight for me was being able to see the actual Aston Martin car that was used in the James Bond films, Goldfinger and Thunderball. It was also in the first James Bond film that starred Daniel Craig. It contained loads of interesting features that would only be of any use to Bond like an ejector seat, machine guns and suchlike. Apart from these features, another interesting gadget on this car was a revolving number plate to help the secret agent avoid detection. One of the number plates was JB 007. I'm not quite sure of the driver remaining undercover for long with a number plate like this! I once knew someone whose number plate was B16 GAV which when viewed from a distance looked like 'Big Gav'. The ironic thing about this was that 'Big Gav' was only about 5 ft 6 in. Another van I used to see in the Edinburgh area had the number plate P1 ANO. This belonged to a company that did piano tuning and probably gave them that little bit extra publicity. While driving last month, I noticed another that left me a bit puzzled. It was 5 OUP. It was supposed to read '50 up', surely it would only be of use to the owner for one year. The only other word I could see it spelling was 'SOUP' and although I love soup as much as the next person, I can't for the life of me imagine why someone would want to display this word on their private car. Maybe having plates of this nature is to put out a message to those around us or maybe there is another reason. Without speculating too much about this, we have a much more important message to announce to the world and it is up to each and everyone of us how we choose to do this. We don't change the message, the message changes us.
