For the tots
Have you ever heard someone in your family say that could not see particularly well? This is what happened to a man called Isaac in the Old Testament. He was about to give his blessing to his eldest son Esau but his wife heard what was said and she made sure that it was their other son Jacob who received the blessing. How did this happen? Rebekah prepared the food which Esau was supposed to prepare and Jacob took it into his father Isaac. But there was a problem they had to solve. Esau was very hairy and Jacob was not. Rebekah put animal fur on Jacob to cheat Isaac into blessing him. Because of what was done, Jacob had to run away because he had cheated his brother.
Although that happened a very long time ago, it is worth remembering that what was done by Rebekah and Jacob was very nasty indeed.
For the teens
Have you ever read the story of Paul's travels? He travelled very widely in the world of his day. Among the places to which he went was Corinth. He lived there with Aquila and Priscilla, both of whom had been obliged to leave Rome because the Emperor Claudius had ordered all Jews out of the city. What is interesting is that both Aquila and Paul were tentmakers. Unfortunately no amount of teaching and preaching from Paul was going to change the people there - they were simply Jews who were not interested in Christ. However Paul did find people willing listen to him and to believe in Jesus and in all he remained there for a year and a half. If you wish to read the whole story for yourselves turn to Acts, Chapter 18.
