January 2006
To :- The Congregation of Holytown.
The new year is now well under way and perhaps already you have forgotten all about the festivities of Christmas and also the New Year celebrations.
Over the past few months the Kirk Session have been required to make some very important decisions regarding the future of our Church. The Kirk Session met with the Convenor of the Parish Reappraisal Committee of Presbytery at that meeting the following proposal was presented.
Holytown and New Stevenston, Wrangholm would become a linked charge and would be given an Interim Minister for a period of time to allow the necessary details of the linkage to be completed. When this has been effected the joint charge would be allowed to call a Minister to serve the charge on an unrestricted call.
What this would mean is that there would be the two Churches and the link would be the sharing of a Minister, each would continue to have their own Kirk Sessions and Congregational Boards and of course their own places of Worship.
The Kirk Session of Holytown, then at a later meeting, were totally unanimous in their decision to accept the proposal of the Presbytery as the best way forward for the Church.
I do understand that there is a member of the Church going around the village saying that the Kirk Session is split over this issue. I can categorically deny that this is the case, all meetings of the Kirk Session are held in a very amicable atmosphere and the decisions that have been taken over a period of time, have been absolutely unanimous.
Please be assured that I will keep you as up-to-date as I can with any further developments as soon as is reasonably possible.
At this time we await the Committee of the Assembly to inform us as to when we can expect to have an Interim Minister appointed.
"All good things come to those who wait, all in good time." Well at least that was what I was told when I was young !
May God richly bless you in the days ahead....
