A Kirk Session promise
On Thursday 1st November, the Kirk Sessions of Wrangholm Kirk and Holytown met for a Joint Kirk Session meeting. This was the first formal such event although there have been many opportunities for office bearers and members to meet together in the planning of our COSY strategy. The aim of the meeting was for us to consider how best we might work together as linked congregations.
We looked at some New Testament passages that speak about relationships with others and from these passages and our discussion of them we agreed a joint statement which is printed below. This statement is our promise to each other as two Kirk Sessions. However, we hope that it might be a guide to us as congregations working in partnership together.
As we move into the future we clearly have our own identity yet this statement outlines our commitment to support each other in our work and witness for the good of our parishes.Holytown linked with New Stevenston Wrangholm Kirk.
Our promise to each other
As elders of these linked congregations, we commit ourselves, prayerfully:
* to be one in spirit and purpose * to be united with Christ in serving the interests of others * to work in ways that will enable harmony and partnership between us to grow * to do everything in a spirit of thankfulness and celebration of our faith.
Oberammergau 2010
The year 2010 seems a long time away! However, travel companies are beginning to make their plans for trips to the Passion Play in the village of Oberammergau in Germany in that year.
This passion play takes place every 10 years and the life of the village of Oberammergau is taken over by the preparation for it and the doing of it.
When I was in Callander someone suggested to me that I might organise a trip to the play in 1990. I agreed to do it, though I must confess I was not particularly excited about it. However, it was an experience 1 would not have wanted to miss! The play was an amazing spectacle, and it gave a huge insight into the last week of Jesus' life. The play takes place in a purpose built theatre seating 5,000 people, and the whole village of Oberammergau is mobilised in the effort to put it on. I have been very fortunate in being able to organise trips to the Passion Play in both 1990 and 2000 with a company called McCabe Travel.
Unfortunately, I have no idea where I will be in 2010! However, a colleague has suggested that I might jointly lead a trip with him, giving me the opportunity of going, and encouraging others to go also. At this stage I would like to ask if anyone would be interested in considering such a trip. There clearly is no commitment at this point, but if anyone would be interested in exploring the possibility of it, then please do let me know. I can assure that you will not be disappointed!
