Keeping up
With restricted parking having been introduced in the town that I work, I now have to park a little way away from my work place. This involves walking a little further than I previously had to (which I suppose isn't a bad thing). I pass by a primary school and after a few initial 'good mornings' with the lollipop lady we now have a wee blether every morning and, to be honest, I quite look forward to it. I passed her one day last week, it was quite early, no children were around and she was sitting on a little wall next to the crossing point. She was holding something in both hands and seemed to be deeply engrossed. When I drew closer, she put whatever she was holding into one of the deep pockets in the high visibility coat she was wearing. I asked her if it was a calculator she was using because by this time, I was more than a wee bitty curious. To my surprise, she said that it wasn't a calculator, it was a Nintendo DS. She went on to tell me that she did crosswords and word games on it to help keep her mind active in the times when no children were around and that it helped avoid just sifting around waiting for children to appear so she could take them safely across the road to school. This wee lady looks as if she's well into her seventies but maybe with her job involving coming into contact with primary schoolchildren, she had taken a step into their world and had gotten hold of a piece of equipment that in all probability had been delivered by Santa into many of the Christmas stockings of her charges. Maybe there's a message in this story, maybe there isn't. I just thought she was really………….cool!
Seven little words
These words were on a board outside a church in New York.
Seven days, without prayer, makes one weak!
Nearer to home the entrance to a church had the message: Life is fragile. Handle it with prayer!
