The Girls' Brigade
On Sunday 8th March, 1st Holytown Girls' Brigade celebrated its 70th anniversary with a Praise Service in the Church. Our Chaplain, Rev Caryl Kyle, led the service and we were delighted that so many former members and friends joined us on this joyful occasion.
Well done to the girls for their lovely singing. After the Service there were light refreshments in the hall with two lovely birthday cakes, one with the Girls' Brigade Badge and the other with the Guildry Badge. We would like to thank Mrs Cynthia Boyd and Christine Boyd for providing the cakes and Robert Young for his hard work in baking the cakes and the icing of the badges on the cakes. They were delicious!
We would also like to thank everyone who provided us with some of the memorabilia for our display of the Company's history and the ladies who provided the tea/coffee etc. Everyone had a chance to have a chat and share their memories of the Company.
On Sunday 15th March a team from the Junior Section took part in the Inter-Divisional Rose Bowl Competition and although we weren't placed the girls enjoyed the day. Well done to Jodie Barr, Abbie McAteer and Nicole Harrison.
On Saturday the 21st March girls took part in the National Mar & Kellie and the National Bible Competition. We are delighted to report that our team of Brigaders who entered the National Mar & Kellie were awarded 2nd place and our team in the National Bible Competition, after a nail biting 2nd place tie, were awarded 3rd place. Well done to Kirsty Shaw, Emma Baillie and Jacqueline McKendrick (Brigader Mar & Kellie) and Danielle Mitchell (Explorer), Taylor Beattie (Junior) and Julia McKendrick (Brigader), National Bible Competition.
On Sunday 29th March, 1st Holytown were hosts for the Motherwell Division Annual Praise Service. Again we were delighted to welcome former members and friends of the Company as well as the other eight Companies who make up the Division to this Service. We would like to thank our Chaplain, Rev Caryl Kyle, also Chaplain to Motherwell Division, for conducting both the 70th Anniversary Praise Service and the Motherwell Division Spring Praise Service
On Monday 11th May, 1st Holytown Company will be hosting the AGM of Motherwell Division in the Church Hall starting at 7.00 pm. Anyone wishing to join us on this night will be made very welcome. We have been runners up and winners in quite a few Divisional competitions this session and this is the night when the Trophies and Certificates will be presented to the girls along with leadership Training/Warrant Officer and Officer presentations. Light refreshments will be provided at the end of the evening.
Marlene Milton, Captain
Stewardship Campaign
We should like to thank all those who were involved with the Stewardship Campaign. Without your help homes could not have been visited, forms returned and so on. Thank you very much!
There are still a couple of weeks in which to return your forms and we should very much appreciate this being done even although you are not changing the amount you are giving nor changing your mode of giving.
Let me bring you up-to-date with the results at the end of March. The number using Freewill Offering envelopes has increased from 81 to 92; Standing Orders have doubled from 4 to 8. Those who have agreed to their donations being included in Gift Aid have increased from 19 to 33. These are most encouraging results and we thank you for your cooperation.
Shortly we shall be reviewing the whole Stewardship Campaign and will report to you.
A little prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, Who prayed for your disciples That they might be one, Even as you are one with the Father, Draw us to yourself, That in common love and obedience to you We may be united to one another, That the world may believe that you are Lord, To the glory of God the Father.
