For the tots
In an area in Germany they celebrate Easter a little differently from us. Before Easter everyone sits down and paints real eggs in bright colours. These are kept until Easter Sunday. None of the children have any idea how many Easter eggs they will have because they play a game with the eggs. The grown-ups put the eggs into baskets or put them near trees or wherever they can find to hide the eggs. The children must then go out and try to find as many as they can.
These men and woman and boys and girls are remembering, just as we do, that on the third day Jesus came back to life. Do you think that maybe you too will paint an egg specially for Easter Sunday?
For the teens
This month we are looking towards Easter. What is Easter? What does it mean to us? Is it an excuse to have a holiday, a reason for eating a lot of chocolate covered eggs or what?
Eastertime is remembered because it was then that Jesus willingly gave up his life for us. The events leading up to this point are tinged with feelings of sadness, of expectation and a measure of wonder at the enormity of what one man, the Son of God, is prepared to do for us. A verse in a well-known hymn tells us why it could only be Jesus who was able to atone for us.
